In a thrilling matchup between sides vying for Champions League participation next season, Aston Villa defeated Nottingham Forest 2-1 in the Premier League on Saturday thanks to goals from Morgan Rogers and Donyell Malen in two minutes.
Villa moved up to sixth place in the league standings with 51 points, six points behind third-place Forest, who are headed for their first appearance in Europe’s top tournament since 1980.
They also extended their winning streak to eight games in a row in all competitions.

Two minutes later, Malen scored by tapping in Ian Maatsen’s precise cross while Villa supporters were still rejoicing.
But in the second half, the pace changed, and Jota Silva gave Forest a response in the 57th minute after he caught the ball and swept it past goalie Emi Martinez.
In a close battle, Forest had 19 shots to 17 for Villa, with the visitors having 13 in the second half. Murillo, a defender for Forest, came close to equalising with a powerful shot from 25 yards out that struck the bar in stoppage time.
When Marcus Rashford found himself one-on-one with Sels in stoppage time, he had a fantastic chance to score Villa’s third goal.
After Rashford’s chipped attempt was parried by the keeper, Sels outran the Villa forward in a sprint to the ball and punched it out of danger.
Emery and his team have turned Villa Park into a fortress, winning 17 of their 25 home games in all competitions over the last 12 months, even though Forest came in undefeated in their last four league games.
Since losing 2-1 to Crystal Palace in the League Cup on October 30, Villa has not suffered a home loss.
