Pep Guardiola rages after chants against Phil Foden's mother

The Manchester derby may have ended in a goalless draw, but the biggest talking point came after the final whistle, as Pep Guardiola launched a furious defense of Phil Foden.

During his post-match interview, the Manchester City manager condemned the abusive chants aimed at Foden’s mother from the stands.

“Honestly, I don’t understand the attitude of people who attack Phil’s mother. It’s a lack of integrity, a lack of class, and they should be ashamed. It’s a lack of class. But it’s not Manchester United’s fault, it’s the people at the stadium who are at fault,” he said, visibly angered by the situation.

The abuse referenced a January 2024 incident, when footage went viral showing Foden’s mother handcuffed and removed from a Welsh nightclub after an altercation. That episode has since been used by rival fans to mock the City player. On Sunday, Manchester United sources said they condemned the chants targeting the England international.

Meanwhile, Foden had a difficult outing on the pitch, struggling to make an impact before being substituted just after the hour mark—an exit that only seemed to fuel the mocking from sections of the home crowd.
