Nigeria Enyimba Vs Abakiliki FC President Federation Cup Get New Venue

The President Federation Cup Round of 16 match between Enyimba and Abakaliki FC has been rescheduled to Awka by the Nigeria Football Federation’s (NFF) Competitions Department.

Originally, the game was supposed to be played at Enugu’s Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.

However, the venue has been moved after the four-time Federation Cup winners’ hierarchy protested, claiming that Enugu does not constitute a neutral venue because it is geographically closer to Abakaliki than Aba.

Enyimba’s position was thus accepted by the NFF, and the game was moved to Awka City Stadium. “Yes,” an Enyimba official said on Thursday, “we will now play our Federation Cup Round of 16 match against Abakaliki FC in Awka.”

“We were not comfortable with Enugu as the match venue because it doesn’t offer neutrality. The NFF understood our concerns and moved the game to Awka,” the official added.

“We were initially told the match against Sunshine Stars would be played on Friday, 11 April, and that it would be televised live.

“But now, we’ve been informed that the match will take place on Sunday, 13 April.

“How can we play at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu Ode on Sunday and travel to Awka on Monday, considering the security concerns in the South-East?

“Of course, the distance from Ijebu Ode to Awka must also be considered,” the Enyimba official said.

Concern has also been raised by Enyimba regarding the postponing of their NPFL matchday 33 matchup versus Sunshine Stars from Friday, April 11, 2025 to Sunday, April 13.

The nine-time Nigerian champions are concerned that they won’t have enough time to get ready for their matchup with Abakaliki FC in the Federation Cup Round of 16.
