Kompany slams UEFA and FIFA after Bayern’s UCL exit

Bayern Munich’s Champions League dreams were dashed after a 2-2 draw against Inter Milan in the quarterfinal second leg, with the Italians advancing 4-3 on aggregate.

Despite an early goal from Harry Kane and a late push from Eric Dier, Bayern couldn’t overcome a composed and clinical Inter side. Lautaro Martínez and Benjamin Pavard punished the Germans with set-piece finishes, while Bayern, despite dominating the ball and creating more chances, suffered from a depleted squad. Key players like Neuer, Musiala, Davies, and Upamecano were all absent, and the lack of depth ultimately proved costly. Inter Milan now advances to face FC Barcelona in the semi-finals, as Bayern is left to reflect on what could have been.

In his post-match press conference, Vincent Kompany didn’t hold back. While acknowledging Inter’s quality and praising his team’s attitude, the Belgian coach turned his frustration toward football’s governing bodies.

“We did what we had to do to win these games, but we were decimated tonight,” he said, before criticizing the relentless match calendar imposed by UEFA and FIFA. “Too many matches, long travels, constant pressure — this isn’t sustainable,” he argued, citing the toll it’s taking on players.

Kompany highlighted that Bayern’s extensive injury list, which included seven key names, directly impacted their Champions League campaign. He joined a growing list of voices — including Guardiola, Tchouaméni, and Courtois — calling for reform. With the Club World Cup looming and Bundesliga battles still ahead, Kompany ended on a sobering note: “There’s a lot of work to do. But if the calendar doesn’t change, the game will suffer.”
