Tobi Amusan, who holds the world record for the 100-meter hurdles, has been officially included to the roster of competitors for the 2025 Diamond League season opener in Xiamen, China.
She will start her pursuit of another championship campaign on the international scene.
On Tuesday, the Xiamen Meeting’s entry list was released, confirming Amusan’s involvement in what is expected to be a fiercely competitive field.
This is the third iteration of the Chinese leg of the prestigious athletics series, and the main program will include nine track and seven field events on April 26 at Egret Stadium.
In the 100-meter hurdles, Amusan, who currently ranks 13th in the world rankings and has a personal best of 12.12 seconds, will go up against tough opposition.
Top American competitors Grace Stark, Tonea Marshall, and Nia Ali are on the roster, along with Devynne Charlton of the Bahamas, the world indoor record holder in the 60-meter hurdles and seventh-ranked in the world, and Danielle Williams of Jamaica, a world champion with a personal best of 12.32.
Her participation in Xiamen follows a successful start to her season in Jamaica, where she won the women’s 100-meter final with a timing of 11.28 seconds (-0.5 wind) at the Velocity Fest 16 on Saturday.
It was her first significant race since joining the Racers Track Club in Kingston and her first competitive race since the Olympic Games in Paris last year.
In an impressive comeback to the circuit, she finished ahead of Bahamian sprinter Anthonique Strachan (11.46) and Jamaican Serena Cole (11.45).
Amusan’s inclusion comes after she placed fifth in the previous year’s competition, where she set a season-best time of 12.58 seconds in a final that was won by Camacho-Quinn in 12.45 seconds.
The Nigerian champion was also outperformed by Charlton and Cyréna Samba-Mayela of France.
However, the opening match this year offers her a chance to reclaim her supremacy before the Diamond League Final in Zurich in August and the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in September.
Several Olympic and world champions are planning to begin their season in Xiamen, including the Nigerian hurdler.
American hurdler Grant Holloway, Swedish pole vault wonder Mondo Duplantis, Yaroslava Mahuchikh of Ukraine, and Letsile Tebogo, the Olympic champion in the 200 meters from Botswana, are among the other main attractions.
