2026 FIFA World Cup: Marsch laments Canada’s defeat to Morocco

Canada’s 2026 World Cup journey ended in the Round of 16 with a 3-0 defeat to a clinical Morocco side, despite dominating much of the game, especially in the first half.

After the match, head coach Jesse Marsch made no secret of his disappointment. In his view, his players put in a strong performance in terms of intensity and tactical discipline, but were unable to capitalize on their moments of strength.

“We were the better team. They had a few more chances than we did, but we were superior in terms of intensity. In terms of game plan, tactics, pressing, and intent, we were better in the first half and even part of the second half. (…) We played an incredible first half; we should have taken the lead in this game. But they have quality players who are used to playing at a high level,” he explained.

The coach did, however, acknowledge the difference in composure between the two teams, praising the Moroccan players for their performance in crucial moments.
