2026 FIFA World Cup: Mexico vs England kickoff delayed

The Round of 16 clash between Mexico and England at the 2026 FIFA World Cup will not start as scheduled. Heavy rain and thunderstorms in Mexico City have forced FIFA to postpone the match, with kickoff now set for 1:00 GMT instead of the originally planned time.

The adverse weather continues to disrupt the tournament after several earlier delays. The group-stage match between France and Iraq started two hours late because of storms, while Mexico’s Round of 32 clash against Ecuador also kicked off an hour behind schedule due to similar conditions.

FIFA confirmed that the teams will begin their warm-up later than planned before the match gets underway at 1:00 GMT, provided the weather improves. Both Mexico and England remain on standby as they await the green light to contest their place in the quarterfinals.
