2026 FIFA World Cup: Migne Proud of Haiti’s Fighting Spirit

Haiti head coach Sebastien Migne expressed pride in his team’s determination and resilience despite their 4-2 defeat to Morocco in their final Group C match at the FIFA World Cup on Wednesday.

The Caribbean side, making its first World Cup appearance since 1974, twice took the lead against the African nation but were ultimately undone by two late Moroccan goals.

Having already been eliminated following defeats in their opening two matches, Haiti was unable to secure what would have been the country’s first-ever World Cup point.

Speaking after the match, Migne admitted he was disappointed with the result but praised his players for their refusal to surrender, even after Morocco took control of the contest.

“I am disappointed with the outcome because we wanted to finish the tournament with a positive result,” Migne said.

“However, I never felt the players stopped believing.

“After Morocco’s third goal, I was concerned the team might lose its shape, but they continued to fight until the final whistle.”

The coach credited the team’s spirit to the character and culture of the Haitian people.

“That determination reflects who Haitians are. They do not give up easily, and the players represented their country with pride and dignity.”

Migne also believes Haiti proved it deserved its place among the world’s best teams, despite exiting the tournament at the group stage.

“We showed that we belonged here and that our qualification was no accident.

“There are areas we must improve, but hopefully we won’t have to wait another 52 years to return to the World Cup.”

Reflecting on Haiti’s campaign, the coach described the tournament as the beginning of a new era for football in the country.

“This is the start of a new chapter in Haiti’s football history.

“We came close to creating something special, and although we couldn’t leave with a victory, I believe we leave with our heads held high.”
