Morocco became the first African nation to secure a place in the knockout stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup after fighting back from behind to defeat a spirited Haiti side 4-2 in a thrilling Group C encounter.
The Atlas Lions, who reached the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, showed resilience and quality to overcome a determined Haitian team that produced one of their finest World Cup performances in decades.
Haiti stunned Morocco with a fearless display, scoring their first FIFA World Cup goals in 52 years and pushing the African giants to the brink for long periods of the match.

The Caribbean nation also produced one of the standout moments of the tournament when Wilson Isidor unleashed a spectacular strike that is already being tipped as a contender for Goal of the Tournament.
Morocco goalkeeper, Yassine Buono’s own goal gave Haiti their first World Cup goal.
Despite the early scare, Morocco responded through captain Achraf Hakimi, who levelled matters in the 38th minute with a composed finish to settle his side’s nerves.

The North Africans then seized control just before halftime when Abdelhamid Sabiri found the back of the net in the 45th minute, as the first half ended 2-2.
Haiti refused to back down and continued to threaten after the restart, but Morocco’s experience eventually proved decisive.
Soufiane Rahimi gave the Atlas Lions the lead in the 78th minute, putting them firmly in command as they edged closer to qualification.
Any remaining doubts were erased in the 89th minute when Gessime added Morocco’s fourth goal, sealing a hard-fought 4-2 victory and sparking celebrations among the Moroccan supporters.
The result sees Morocco finish second in Group C and advance to the Round of 32, becoming the first African team to book their place in the knockout rounds of the tournament.
While the defeat ended Haiti’s hopes of progressing, their courageous performance earned widespread admiration.
Their attacking display and historic goals provided one of the most memorable moments of the group stage and highlighted the progress of Caribbean football on the world stage.
Morocco will now turn their attention to the knockout phase, where they are set to face the winners of Group F in the Round of 32 as they continue their quest to build on their historic 2022 World Cup semifinal run.
