Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Sam Nyamweya has called on the current boss Hussein Mohammed to resign after Harambee Stars struggled to beat Eritrea in their matchday one of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) at Nyayo Stadium on Saturday.
Substitute Ben Stanley Omondi created the chance which enabled Kenya to snatch a vital point in the 87th minute. Stanley moved forward with fans urging him on and time running out before delivering the cross which Ryan Ogam timed well before stabbing to the net.
Eritrea had taken a deserved lead in the 36th minute through Nahom Girmai Netabay.

Dear Kenyans,
“Drawing with Eritrea at home is not a result. It is a national insult. Kenya is far above Eritrea in football. For us to fail to beat them here, in Nairobi, is a disgrace we must not normalize.
This was not a draw on the pitch. It was a failure in the boardroom. FKF is rotten to the core. A Federation that does not speak in one voice, a Federation fighting itself, cannot lead a national team.
Our boys did not train because they had not been paid. Their allowances were unpaid, their welfare ignored. FKF treats national heroes like beggars and expects miracles on the pitch. Had the players welfare been taken care of, we would have easily won this game.
Our coaching staff has no work permit. FKF is running the national team with an illegal bench. This is impunity and incompetence of the highest order. Our players have not touched a ball because FKF has killed the league. No competition, no match fitness, no rhythm. What did you expect them to do against Eritrea?
I have served this game all my life. I have never seen a Federation this disjointed and this disorganized. It is shameful.
And this is the team that wants to take us to AFCON 2027? We are co-hosting Africa’s biggest tournament. If we continue with this leadership, we are courting monumental shame before the whole continent. Kenya will be embarrassed in front of the world.
I am calling upon the Government of Kenya to act now. The Ministry of Sports must intervene to save Kenyan football. We cannot sit and watch a few individuals drag our national pride through the mud as we head to AFCON 2027.
Hussein Mohammed has failed. His shenanigans have brought us here. He must pack and go. For the love of the game, save Kenyan football.”
