Coventry City have completed the signing of Nigeria international striker Taiwo Awoniyi from Nottingham Forest in a deal reportedly worth around £9 million.
The Championship club confirmed the transfer as they strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new campaign, with Awoniyi bringing considerable Premier League and international experience to the squad.
The 28-year-old forward leaves Nottingham Forest after several seasons at the City Ground, where he became an important attacking option following his arrival from Union Berlin.
Awoniyi’s time at Forest was marked by impressive performances, although injuries disrupted his consistency at various stages. His pace, physical strength and ability to lead the line made him a valuable option when fully fit.
The move to Coventry represents a fresh chapter for the striker, who will be expected to play a leading role in the club’s attacking plans.
Awoniyi previously enjoyed a successful spell in Germany with Union Berlin before making the move to England.
He has also represented Nigeria at senior level, earning international recognition for his performances as a powerful and mobile centre-forward.
Coventry will be hoping the Nigerian can rediscover his best form and provide the goals needed to help the club achieve its ambitions this season.
For Nottingham Forest, the transfer brings an end to Awoniyi’s spell at the club, while Coventry have secured a proven striker with experience at the highest levels of English and European football.
The reported £9 million fee makes the transfer one of the significant moves involving a Nigerian player during the current transfer window.
Awoniyi is now set to begin a new challenge with Coventry City, with supporters eagerly anticipating his first appearance in the club’s colours.
