Taiwo Awoniyi Bids Emotional Farewell to Nottingham Forest After Coventry City Move

Taiwo Awoniyi has emotionally thanked Nottingham Forest for an unforgettable chapter in his career after completing his move to Coventry City.

The Nigeria international brought his time at the City Ground to an emotional close, reflecting on the journey he shared with the club, its supporters, teammates and staff.

In a heartfelt farewell message, Awoniyi described his Forest experience as something that went beyond football, suggesting that the memories and relationships built during his time at the club will remain with him long after his departure.

“MORE THAN JUST A GAME. Some chapters are impossible to put into words. Forever grateful for this one,” Awoniyi wrote.

The striker also turned to his faith as he reflected on his Forest journey, quoting Psalm 3:3: “But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.”

He concluded his message with a simple but emotional tribute to the club and its supporters:
“Thank you, Nottingham. ❤️🌳 God is the Greatest.”

Awoniyi joined Nottingham Forest in 2022 and became an important figure in the club’s Premier League journey.

His time at Forest was marked by memorable goals, difficult moments and periods of injury, but he remained a popular figure among the supporters.

His departure now brings an end to another significant chapter in the Nigerian forward’s career. Awoniyi will look to make a fresh start at Coventry City, where he will be expected to rediscover his best form and contribute goals and experience to his new team.

For Forest supporters, however, Awoniyi’s farewell message underlines the emotional connection that developed between the player and the club.

As he begins his next chapter at Coventry, the Nigerian striker leaves Nottingham with gratitude, faith and memories that, in his own words, were “more than just a game.”
