An international coalition of supporters’ associations has launched a petition demanding Gianni Infantino’s resignation as FIFA president. Football Supporters Europe, the National Supporters’ Association and the Irrésistibles Français feature among the organizations backing the initiative.
Beyond Infantino’s departure, the coalition wants FIFA to undertake a major reform of its governance and give supporters a stronger voice in the way football’s governing body operates.
The supporters’ groups accuse FIFA’s leadership of moving too far away from the people who make football what it is. In their statement, they directly target Infantino, writing: “One man seems to believe he is more important than football itself.” The coalition wants supporters and other key football stakeholders to participate formally in decisions affecting the sport’s future, with greater influence over the governance of the international body.
This initiative adds another layer to the growing criticism surrounding Infantino’s leadership. After opposition from several confederations and increasing tensions within football’s governing structures, the supporters’ movement now seeks to broaden the challenge to the FIFA president. Their petition aims to turn the growing dissatisfaction into a coordinated campaign for institutional change.
