Atlético fans booed the Argentine during Wednesday’s victory over Malaga, adding another layer of pressure to an increasingly complicated situation.
Arsenal therefore had an opportunity to sign Alvarez, but the former Manchester City striker turned it down because he does not want to return to England. His priority remains Barcelona, even though the Catalan club has reportedly abandoned the operation after months of unsuccessful negotiations. The situation has also increased tensions between Alvarez and Atlético’s management, while Arsenal could now turn their attention to Victor Osimhen as they continue their search for a new striker.
