Several high-profile transfers have fallen through this summer after medical examinations revealed unexpected concerns. Manchester United abandoned their move for Ederson after doctors raised concerns about the midfielder’s knee.
Atalanta had already reached an agreement worth around €45 million with the English club, but the medical results forced United to reconsider the deal. Bamba Dieng also failed to obtain medical clearance for his move to Lazio after doctors detected a knee problem. The Senegalese striker was set to join the Italian club as a free agent, but the transfer ultimately collapsed.
Other deals suffered similar setbacks. Inter Milan had agreed a €25-30 million deal with Union Saint-Gilloise for Anan Khalaili, who had already completed part of his medical. However, the mandatory cardiac examination in Italy prevented the Israeli winger from completing the move. Strasbourg also abandoned their €20 million deal for Ibrahima Ba after doctors discovered a knee problem during his medical. Famalicão had agreed to the transfer, including bonuses, and the French club had prepared a four-year contract before the medical issue changed everything.
Andrea Belotti also saw his proposed move to Cagliari collapse after the club reviewed his medical results. Dayann Methalie’s situation remains unresolved, meanwhile, after Sunderland put his €25 million-plus transfer on hold following a problem detected during his examination. Further tests will determine whether the Frenchman can undergo the planned surgery and potentially allow the transfer to go ahead.
