Transfer: Mikayil Faye poised to join FC Nurnberg

Signed in the summer of 2024 for 10 million euros from FC Barcelona, Mikayil Faye never managed to establish himself at Stade Rennais.

Lacking playing time, the 22-year-old Senegalese defender made only 13 Ligue 1 appearances during his first season before being loaned to Cremonese in Serie A to revive his career.

But his stint in Italy was no more successful. Limited to just nine appearances with the Lombardy-based team which was relegated at the end of the season Faye returned to Rennes in early July.

His future, however, is likely to unfold far from Brittany, as a transfer to the Bundesliga is now reportedly well underway.

According to the German press, the Senegalese defender is set to join 1. FC Nurnberg in the German second division.

An agreement has been reached between the club’s management and Stade Rennais. It is a one-year loan with a non-mandatory purchase option. The player is expected in Germany to undergo his medical exam.
