Bayer Leverkusen have appointed Edmond Tapsoba as the new club captain ahead of the 2026/27 campaign. He replaces Robert Andrich, while Patrik Schick has been named as vice-captain.
Tapsoba, who joined the Werkself in 2020, takes over the armband from Robert Andrich, with new head coach Carles Martínez choosing to go in another direction. He named Schick as vice-captain.
Martínez said: “We made the decision this week, and I spoke to the team about it. Eddy and Patrik are two players who have been at the club for many years. Eddy connects well with everybody – with the rest of the team, the fans and with me.”
The Leverkusen coach added: “I think he deserves this, and I am very happy for him.”
Tapsoba made the switch to the BayArena from Portuguese side Vitória de Guimarães and has since made 270 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions. He was a member of the team that won the Bundesliga unbeaten, as well as the DFB Cup, in 2023/24, while he has found the back of the net on 13 occasions.
