Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku believes Carlos Queiroz could adopt a different tactical approach during his second spell in charge of the Black Stars, depending on the players and circumstances available to him.
Queiroz was reappointed as Ghana head coach on Wednesday, just two months after stepping down following the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Portuguese coach had guided the Black Stars to the Round of 32 despite having limited preparation time.
His first spell attracted criticism from some sections of the football public for Ghana’s cautious and defensively oriented approach, but Okraku believes the coach’s methods could evolve with a different group of players and a different set of circumstances.
“Over time if the same person has a chance to work again with the team, with different players, under different circumstances maybe the style will be different,” Okraku said.
Queiroz’s defensive organisation was one of the notable features of Ghana’s World Cup campaign, with the Black Stars keeping England scoreless in the group stage and progressing to the knockout phase.
However, with a new mandate now underway, Okraku appears open to the possibility of seeing a more expansive version of the Portuguese coach’s football.
Queiroz’s return comes at an important juncture for Ghana, with the Black Stars scheduled to face Côte d’Ivoire home and away in the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying window.
