The first legs of the 2026/27 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round have been completed, with several clubs securing commanding advantages ahead of next week’s return fixtures.
Egyptian side ZED FC recorded one of the biggest victories of the round, defeating ASAS Djibouti Telecom 4-0 at home, while Libya’s Al-Ahli Tripoli strengthened their qualification hopes with a 3-0 away win over KMKM of Zanzibar.
Tanzania’s Singida Black Stars produced the biggest scoreline of the round, thrashing South Sudan’s Al Ghazala Wau 7-1 away from home.
Nigerian clubs make strong starts
Nigeria’s representatives also made positive starts to their Confederation Cup campaigns.
Shooting Stars secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Tunisian giants CS Sfaxien, with the Ibadan-based side taking a slim advantage into the second leg.
In Ikenne, El Kanemi Warriors enjoyed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau’s Odeba, putting the Nigerian club in a strong position to progress to the next round.
Other notable results included Kitara’s 2-1 away victory over Mogadishu City, Primeiro de Agosto’s 2-0 win against Green Mamba and ASKO D’Kara’s emphatic 5-0 victory over AS ZAM.
Ghana’s Nations FC, however, suffered a 1-0 defeat away to FC Diarra, while Kenya’s Tusker fought back to secure a 2-2 draw against Al-Ahli Madani in Sudan.
The first-leg tie between DR Congo’s DC Virunga and Seychelles club BTL Bazar was not played after the visiting side declined to travel because of concerns over an Ebola outbreak.
The CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round return legs are scheduled for September 11–13, 2026, with clubs battling for places in the next stage of the competition.
