Ugandan side Kitara FC have advanced to the next round of the CAF competition after defeating Mogadishu City Council 2-0 in the second leg of their preliminary-round tie.
Kitara sealed the victory with goals from Jimmy Kalema and Frank βZaggaβ Tumwesigye to complete a 4-1 aggregate win over the Somali club.
Kalema opened the scoring in the 29th minute, giving Kitara a 1-0 lead before the break and putting the Ugandan side firmly in control of the tie.
Kitara continued to dominate after the restart and doubled their advantage in the 62nd minute through Tumwesigye, whose goal effectively ended Mogadishu City Council’s hopes of mounting a comeback.
The 2-0 victory confirmed Kitara’s progress to the next stage with a convincing 4-1 aggregate scoreline.
Kitara FC face Al Ahly next
Kitara FC now have a much bigger challenge ahead as they prepare to face Egyptian giants Al Ahly in the next round.
The encounter will provide Kitara with a major test against one of Africa’s most successful clubs and a valuable opportunity to measure themselves against elite continental opposition.
After eliminating Mogadishu City Council, Kitara will now turn their attention to preparing for the highly anticipated meeting with Al Ahly.
