FIFA has congratulated ๐๐๐ ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ข๐๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ข ๐๐๐ฆ๐๐ซ๐ following his election as ๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐ข๐๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ข๐๐๐ง๐ญ ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ ๐๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ ๐ ๐จ๐จ๐ญ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ ๐๐ง๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐๐จ๐ง๐ ๐ (๐๐๐ ๐ ๐) during the Union’s recent General Assembly in Banjul, The Gambia.
In a letter dated 7 September 2026, ๐ ๐๐ ๐ ๐๐๐ง๐๐ซ๐๐ฅ ๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ญ๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซรถ๐ฆ described the election as a “๐ฐ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ-๐๐๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐ฏ๐๐ ๐ซ๐๐๐จ๐ ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง” of President Babadi’s standing within the West African football community and the work he has undertaken at the helm of the SLFA.
Grafstrรถm noted that the President’s election was “๐ ๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ซ ๐ซ๐๐๐ฅ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง ๐จ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ญ๐ซ๐ฎ๐ฌ๐ญ ๐ฉ๐ฅ๐๐๐๐ ๐ข๐ง ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐๐ฒ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ๐ซ ๐ฉ๐๐๐ซ๐ฌ,” adding that FIFA has every confidence that his “๐๐ฑ๐ฉ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ง๐๐, ๐ฃ๐ฎ๐๐ ๐๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐๐ง๐ ๐๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ข๐ญ๐ฆ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ ๐๐ฆ๐” will be of great value to WAFU A in his new role.
The FIFA scribe further mentioned the progress being made across the region, stating that WAFU A “๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ฎ๐๐ฌ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ฆ๐๐ค๐ ๐ข๐ฆ๐ฉ๐จ๐ซ๐ญ๐๐ง๐ญ ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ซ๐ข๐๐๐ฌ, ๐๐จ๐ญ๐ก ๐จ๐ง ๐๐ง๐ ๐จ๐๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐ฉ๐ข๐ญ๐๐ก,” and stressed that strong and experienced leadership would be essential in sustaining that momentum.
Expressing confidence in President Babadi Kamaraโs ability to contribute to the development of the zone, Grafstrรถm said his leadership would help WAFU A “๐๐จ๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐ง๐ฎ๐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐ ๐ซ๐จ๐ฐ” and further strengthen collaboration among member associations across West Africa.
He concluded by wishing the SLFA President success in his new mandate and reaffirmed FIFAโs commitment to maintaining close cooperation with him in pushing football development in the region.
The SLFA boss was elected 1st Vice President of WAFU A at the organisationโs 15th General Assembly over the weekend.
