Nigeria’s Ella Onojuvwevwo opened the country’s campaign at the World Ultimate Championship in Budapest, finishing sixth in the first semifinal of the women’s 400m.
Onojuvwevwo recorded a time of 50.50 seconds in a competitive race that featured some of the world’s leading quarter-milers.
The Nigerian athlete finished behind Marileidy Paulino, who won the semifinal in 49.58s, and Salwa Eid Naser, who crossed the line in 49.67s.

Paulino produced the fastest time in the semifinal, finishing ahead of Naser as both athletes broke the 50-second barrier.
Onojuvwevwo’s 50.50s placed her sixth in the race, marking her opening appearance for Nigeria at the championship as she failed to qualify for the next round.
