Tobi Amusan Wins 100m Hurdles Gold, Sets New Meeting Record in Taiwan

Nigerian sprint hurdler Tobi Amusan continued her strong form on the international circuit on Saturday after claiming gold in the women’s 100m hurdles at the New Taipei Athletics Open in Taiwan, delivering a commanding performance that also set a new meeting record.

The 29-year-old stormed to victory in 12.72 seconds, a time that not only secured first place but also rewrote the competition’s record books.

Her run shaved 0.08 seconds off the previous meeting record of 12.80 seconds, which had been held by former world champion and US Olympic silver medalist Nia Ali.

Amusan produced a clean and controlled race from the blocks, maintaining rhythm over the hurdles to finish comfortably ahead of the field in the final stretch.

Home athletes Bo Ya Zhang and Yi Po-an followed behind the Nigerian star but could not match her pace.

Zhang finished second in 13.17 seconds, while Yi Po-an claimed third in 13.37 seconds, as Amusan’s superior speed and technique proved decisive.

The victory adds another international title to Amusan’s decorated career and further reinforces her status as one of the leading figures in women’s sprint hurdling globally.

The New Taipei Athletics Open once again provided a competitive platform for elite and emerging athletes, but the spotlight belonged firmly to the Nigerian, who left Taiwan with both gold and a new record to her name.
