Speaking ahead the second leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League 2026/27 First Preliminary Round second leg encounter between Power Dynamos and Al Merreikh, Dynamos coach Oswald Mutapa said the Zambian champions were confident of overturning the first leg 1-0 deficit.
“It will be a tough game, like all games have been, but I think we have the human resource. We are down one zero but not out, we have 90 minutes to get the result that we need,” he says.
Mutapa says Power Dynamos will have to kickoff like ‘a house on fire’ in the return leg to get the desired result. “In the first leg, we started slowly in the first 15-20 minutes but this will be another day, another game and I think focus is there.”
“We know what we are expected to do, so we need to start as a house on fire, we are playing home and if we need the result from the first whistle, we have to stamp our authority on the game.”
He added Zambia CAF envoys are carrying the additional burden of fighting to retain the four slots Zambia lost due to a poor show on the continent.
“A very important game for the team, for the fans and for the country at large. We are pushing for the four slots to be given to Zambia depending on the progression of Power Dynamos and Red Arrows,” he said.
“That is why it is even more important that we get the result that is needed and the result is to qualify to go to the next round.”
Dynamos host Al Merreikh on Saturday and trail 1-0 from the first leg played in Kigali. The game will be played at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium at 15h00.
