Jan Gyamerah Earns Maiden Black Stars Call-Up After Strong Start at Elversberg

Ghanaian defender Jan Gyamerah has earned his first senior Black Stars call-up after being named in Carlos Queiroz’s 24-man squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 31-year-old right-back has been rewarded for his performances with German second-tier side SV Elversberg, where he has featured regularly during the opening weeks of the 2026/27 campaign.

Gyamerah brings considerable experience to the squad, having previously played for clubs including Kaiserslautern, Nürnberg, Hamburger SV and VfL Bochum. He is now set to join the Black Stars setup for the first time at senior level.

His maiden invitation comes as Ghana prepare for a demanding start to their AFCON qualifying campaign. The Black Stars will travel to Bouaké to face Côte d’Ivoire on September 24, before hosting The Gambia in Accra on September 29.

Gyamerah could potentially make his senior international debut in either fixture.

Ghana will then round off the international window with a friendly against Morocco in Tangier on October 4.

The Elversberg defender is one of two players receiving their first senior Black Stars call-ups, alongside New York Red Bulls midfielder Ronald Donkor.
