Uganda have identified Austria Wien striker Kelvin Owusu Boateng as a potential addition to the national team under the Uganda Football Federation’s (FUFA) heritage recruitment programme.
The 26-year-old forward, who was born in Accra to Ghanaian parents, is understood to be eligible to represent Uganda through his Ugandan grandparent.
Owusu Boateng’s background has attracted the attention of Uganda’s football authorities as they continue efforts to identify players of Ugandan heritage playing abroad.
The striker developed his footballing foundation at Ghana’s renowned Right to Dream Academy, which has produced several players who have gone on to compete at the highest level in Europe.
He currently plays for Austrian side Austria Wien, where his performances have brought him into consideration as FUFA explores options to strengthen the Cranes squad with players eligible through heritage.
His potential recruitment would add another Ghana-born player with Ugandan roots to the country’s growing pool of diaspora-eligible footballers.
FUFA’s heritage recruitment strategy is aimed at identifying eligible players from across the global football landscape and engaging them over the possibility of representing Uganda at international level.
