Ghana defender Alexander Djiku will miss the Black Stars’ 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against The Gambia on Tuesday after sustaining an injury during the opening Group C fixture against Côte d’Ivoire.
Djiku, who returned to the national team after missing the 2026 FIFA World Cup through injury, started Ghana’s 2-0 defeat to the Elephants in Bouaké on Thursday. He was forced off late in the game after picking up a knock.
The 32-year-old had initially appeared optimistic about Ghana’s preparations for the Gambia clash and called on supporters to rally behind the team. He said the Black Stars must remain united and give everything for the national shirt.
His absence will, however, leave head coach Carlos Queiroz with another defensive selection issue as Ghana look to respond to their opening defeat.
The Black Stars currently sit at the bottom of Group C after the first round of matches, while The Gambia began their campaign with a 2-1 victory over Somalia.
Ghana will host The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, September 29, knowing that a positive result is important to their qualification campaign.
