Asante Kotoko have agreed to release head coach Eric Tinkler from his contract with immediate effect following the South African’s request to leave the club for personal reasons.
The decision was confirmed by the club in an official statement dated September 28, 2026, with the Board of Directors stating that both parties had engaged in negotiations in an attempt to prevent the premature end of their relationship.
However, the club ultimately respected Tinkler’s decision to depart.
“Both parties engaged in meaningful negotiations to avert the decision at this time of the relationship between the parties but finally had to respect Coach Tinkler’s decision,” the statement said.
Kotoko thanked Tinkler for his professionalism and commitment during his relatively short spell in charge of the Porcupine Warriors and wished him well in his future endeavours.
The club also stressed the importance of professionalism, commitment and focus as it pursues its current sporting objectives.
With Tinkler’s departure, the club says its technical team will continue implementing its strategies under the leadership of Director of Football Stanley Purl Menzo.
“ The Club remains focused on its sporting objectives as the Technical Team is poised to proceed with the Club’s strategies to achieve its objectives under the leadership of the Director of Football, Mr. Stanley Purl Menzo,” the statement added.
Tinkler’s exit comes after a short tenure at the Kumasi-based club, with Kotoko now set to move forward with its sporting plans under Menzo’s leadership.
