The Ghana Football Association’s handling of the Black Stars’ international schedule has come under scrutiny after planned friendlies against Tanzania and Morocco were both cancelled during the September–October FIFA international window.
Ghana were initially expected to face Tanzania after their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. That fixture was later abandoned after the two federations reportedly failed to reach a final agreement. Ghana subsequently announced a replacement friendly against Morocco, scheduled for October 4 at the Grand Stade de Tanger.
However, that fixture has now also been cancelled, leaving Carlos Queiroz’s side without the planned international friendly.
The Ghana FA has confirmed that it informed the Royal Moroccan Football Federation that the match would not go ahead. GFA Communications Director Henry Asante, however, declined to disclose the reasons for the cancellation.
Reports from Morocco have linked the decision to internal issues within the Ghana camp, including an alleged dispute over outstanding player payments. Reports indicate that the situation had affected preparations and that some players were reportedly unwilling to travel to Morocco. These claims have not been officially confirmed by the GFA.
The late collapse of the Morocco fixture has also generated reports of frustration on the Moroccan side, particularly because the cancellation came shortly before the scheduled match. Morocco have since moved to consider alternative opposition for the date.
There are also reports suggesting that concerns within Ghana surrounded the prospect of facing Morocco after the Black Stars’ difficult start to their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign. Ghana suffered a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before losing 4-2 to The Gambia in Accra. However, there is no official confirmation from the GFA that fear of losing to Morocco was a reason for cancelling the fixture.
The sequence of events has raised questions about planning and communication around the Black Stars. Players have reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with aspects of the organisation, while the cancellation has deprived Queiroz of a high-level preparation match ahead of the next AFCON qualifiers.
With both the Tanzania and Morocco friendlies now off, Ghana will have to consider alternative arrangements before returning to competitive action in the next qualifying window.
