Thibaut Courtois already has a favorite for the next Ballon d’Or. Speaking on Radioestadio Noche, the Real Madrid goalkeeper believes the race remains wide open among several contenders, specifically citing Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, and Harry Kane. “Mbappé and Lamine are good. Kane will be in the mix too.
“The competition is very open this year,” the Belgian international explained, before clearly stating his preference: “For me, it’s Mbappé.”
Above all, Courtois believes the Ballon d’Or should not be awarded solely based on team achievements. “The Ballon d’Or should also reward the best player of the year. It’s not just about trophies,” he insisted. To illustrate his point, the Madrid goalkeeper cited the example of his teammate Dani Carvajal: “If you follow that logic, perhaps it should have gone to Carvajal three years ago.”
