Barcelona Hansi Flick Looks Forward To Write History With Barca

Barcelona New Manager Hansi Flick said he is looking forward to work for the club following his announcement as new manager.

Hansi Flick was handed a two-year contract, the LaLiga club said on Wednesday.

Flick, who has not coached a team since being fired by Germany in September 2023, will be challenged with turning around Barcelona’s fortunes after the Catalans failed to win a trophy this season under Xavi Hernandez, who was fired on Friday.

Flick said it was an honour and a dream to be the Barcelona coach.

“I’m really looking forward to start working for this amazing club.

Since I have arrived I have seen that everyone loves this club and does everything they can for its success,” he told Barca TV.

“In the first team there is a good mix of experienced players and talented young players.

“I think we have to work to be able to improve… I won a few titles with Bayern Munich and I’d like to continue this path at Barcelona.”

Barcelona highlighted the 59-year-old’s success at Bayern during the 2019-20 season, when he won six trophies: the Bundesliga, the German Cup, the Champions League, the German Super Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.

Xavi was fired last week after a trophy-less season in which Barcelona ended 10 points behind champions Real Madrid, lost the Spanish Super Cup final to their rivals, and were eliminated from the Champions League by Paris St Germain in the last eight.

The German filling Xavi’s shoes faces a difficult task in resolving Barcelona’s on-field issues amidst off-field turbulence, including mounting financial problems and a refereeing scandal that could last years.

Flick rose to prominence as an assistant to Germany manager Joachim Low following the team’s World Cup victory in 2014. In 2019, he took over as head coach of Bayern Munich, winning seven titles in his first two seasons.

He led Bayern to a treble in 2020, defeating Barcelona 8-2 on their way to winning the Champions League, before departing the Bundesliga giants in 2021 to lead the German national team.

Flick was chastised for the four-times world champions’ dismal performance in the 2022 World Cup, which saw them eliminated in the group stage, and was eventually fired in September 2023 following a humiliating home defeat by Japan in a friendly match.
