Lesotho trounced Zimbabwe 2-0 away on Friday afternoon, taking the lead in Group C of Africa’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
Lesotho, however, upset Zimbabwe in Group C at South Africa’s Johannesburg Stadium.

Lesotho’s Rethabile Rasethuntsa scored in the 21st minute, giving the team an early lead.
Jane Thaba Ntso then doubled their lead ten minutes later, putting Zimbabwe out of contention.
Lesotho now leads Group C, with five points from three matches, while Zimbabwe has only two.
The other Group C match between Nigeria and South Africa is set for later Friday in Uyo, with both teams looking to gain ground on the group’s leaders.
Meanwhile, in Group G, Mozambique defeated Somalia 2-1 in Maputo. Alfons Amade put the hosts ahead in the 14th minute, and Stanley Ratifo extended their lead in the 29th minute.
Somalia pulled one back in the 66th minute through Ismail Shirwa, but it was only a consolation as Mozambique went on to win.
Mozambique now has six points, tied with group leaders Algeria and Guinea after three matches.
Somalia, on the other hand, remains at the bottom of the table, having earned nil points.
Kenya and Burundi drew 1-1 in a closely contested encounter at Lilongwe, Malawi.
Duke Abuya gave Kenya the lead in the 72nd minute, but their joy was short-lived as Burundi’s Abdallah Sudi levelled 13 minutes later.
The tie puts Kenya in third place with four points, slightly ahead of Burundi in goal differential.
As the qualifying process unfolds, Friday’s results will have a significant impact on the rankings and each nation’s chances of competing in the 2026 World Cup.
