Senegal’s appeal against the decision to award Morocco the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title was heard behind closed doors at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Thursday, October 8.
CAS has confirmed that the panel is still deliberating on the case, with a final decision expected at the end of November.
The hearing represents a significant stage in Senegal’s challenge to the decision that stripped the Teranga Lions of the continental title and awarded it to Morocco.
Proceedings were conducted privately at CAS headquarters as the panel considered the arguments presented in the dispute. However, no immediate ruling was announced following Thursday’s hearing.
The ongoing deliberations mean both Senegal and Morocco must wait until the expected announcement in late November to learn the outcome of the appeal.
The case has attracted considerable attention across African football, given the significance of the AFCON title and the potential implications of CAS’s ruling for both national teams.
Until the verdict is delivered, uncertainty will continue to surround the final status of the 2025 AFCON championship.
The CAS decision is expected to provide a definitive resolution to Senegal’s challenge and clarify whether the existing ruling in Morocco’s favour will stand.
