Vladimir Petkovic finds a new managerial role after chaotic exit from Algeria

Vladimir Petkovic has emerged as a potential candidate to take charge of Udinese following his departure from Algeria. The Serie A side are considering a managerial change as Kosta Runjaic faces growing pressure after a damaging defeat to AS Roma.

Runjaic’s position has become increasingly uncertain following Udinese’s 5-2 loss to Roma. The Friulian club currently sit 19th in Serie A with just five points after ten matches, prompting the board to consider alternatives. According to reports, the club’s leadership wants to make a decision before the next international break, with Udinese also preparing for their upcoming clash against Venezia on Friday, November 6. Petkovic, who has been without a club since leaving the Algerian national team last August, has therefore entered the discussion.

The Bosnian coach brings considerable experience in Italian and international football. He managed Lazio between 2012 and 2014, winning the Coppa Italia in 2013 after defeating Roma in the final. He later guided Switzerland to the Euro 2020 quarter-finals, where his team eliminated France on penalties.

However, Petkovic is not the only option under consideration, as Paolo Zanetti and Davide Ballardini also feature on Udinese’s shortlist. Roberto D’Aversa, meanwhile, has reportedly lost ground in the race. The club’s next decision should clarify who will lead the team through its difficult campaign.
