The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Leagues & Competitions Committee has issued a ruling on the abandoned Mozzart Bet Cup match between Mara Sugar FC and AFC Leopards SC, which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Mamboleo, Kisumu.
The match was abandoned in the 89th minute following an invasion of the pitch by AFC Leopards SC fans in protest of the referee’s decision to rescind an earlier awarded penalty.
Committee’s Decision
AFC Leopards SC fans were found responsible for causing the abandonment of the match by unlawfully invading the field of play.
In accordance with Article 6.4(iv) of the Mozzart Bet Cup Regulations, read alongside Article 3.5.6 of the FKF Rules & Regulations Governing Kenyan Football, AFC Leopards SC shall forfeit the match, and Mara Sugar FC is awarded the victory and will progress to the next round of the competition
AFC Leopards has been issued a warning regarding the misconduct of their supporters and has been advised to implement adequate measures to prevent future cases of hooliganism and violence at their matches.
A detailed report containing the full reasoning behind this decision will be issued within 21 days. The FKF remains committed to ensuring fair play, discipline, and the enforcement of regulations across all competitions.
