Senegal Senegal Coach Pape Thiaw Stresses Urgency After Draw in World Cup Qualifiers

Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw remained optimistic despite his team’s goalless draw against Sudan in their latest 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier. Speaking after the match, Thiaw acknowledged the disappointment of not securing maximum points but emphasized that the qualification race is far from over.

“We came here to take three points, but there are still five games left. We won’t be able to count the difference until October. We must bounce back quickly against Togo to stay in the race,” he stated.

The result leaves Senegal in third place with nine points, two behind group leaders Sudan. With five matches remaining, Thiaw is keen on ensuring his side regains momentum, especially in their next fixture against Togo, a crucial match that could define their qualification hopes.

Despite the setback, Senegal remains one of the favorites to progress, boasting a squad filled with talent and experience.
