AFCON-20 AFCON U20: Flying Eagles To Arrive Egypt This Week For Final Preparations

The Flying Eagles of Nigerian U20 national team, will go to Egypt, the 2025 CAF U20 African Nations Cup hosts, to complete their competition preparations.

With seven tournament victories (1983, 1985, 1987, 1989, 2005, 2011, 2015), the Flying Eagles are the most successful team in the competition.

In an effort to increase their chances of winning the title in 2025, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has decided to allow the underage team to travel eight days prior to the start of the tournament in order to prepare them both mentally and physically for the tasks that lie ahead.

The team will leave Abuja for the biannual competition eight days before to kickoff, according to a press release issued by the NFF.

Nigeria now faces different opponents after CAF held a new draw.

Nigeria will now face Morocco, Kenya, and Tunisia in the 24th Africa U20 Cup of Nations group stage, which will be held in Egypt from April 27 to May 18.

Egypt and South Africa, who had been in Nigeria’s pool prior to Cote d’Ivoire’s withdrawal as tournament hosts, were placed in Group A at the redraw held Sunday at the Egypt Football Association offices in Cairo.

Zambia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, and Tanzania are the other five teams in Group A, which is led by the new hosts, Egypt.

But just as in the past, the Flying Eagles will play East Africans Kenya and two North Africans (this time Tunisia and Morocco) for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Holders for cups Ghana, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic are the opponents of Senegal, which leads Group C.

All four of the tournament’s semi-finalists from Egypt will represent Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup, which will take place in Chile from September 27 to October 19.

GROUP A: Egypt, Zambia, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania

GROUP B: Nigeria, Tunisia, Kenya, Morocco

GROUP C: Senegal, Central African Republic, DR Congo, Ghana
