The first leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup was played on Sunday night at the Municipal Stadium of Berkane, where RS Berkane defeated CS Constantine 4-0.
The former champions, who are vying for a third TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup crown, found the goal quickly.
To the cheers of the audience, Youssef Mehri scored in the first few seconds of play.
Paul Basséne’s brilliant finish doubled the advantage, giving his team a comfortable two-goal lead going into halftime, with the crowd and momentum on their side.
After the break, CS Constantine was unable to handle the former champions’ constant attacks and ended up giving up again in the 54th minute when Oussama Lamlaoui scored.
Later in the game, Lamlaoui scored a goal in the final seconds to give the Moroccans a 4-0 victory that sent them to the second leg.
In front of a sizable crowd, the match, which took place at Berkane’s municipal stadium, was marked by intense enthusiasm and excitement.
With four goals, the Moroccan team has advanced significantly to the CAF Confederation Cup final for the second straight year.
The onus will now be on CS Constantine, who will need the encouragement of their vociferous supporters to motivate them to take on the previous champions in what appears to be an impossible feat.
