2026 FIFA World Cup: Netherlands and Japan confirmed lineup for Group F Opener

The Netherlands and Japan have named their starting lineups ahead of their highly anticipated FIFA World Cup Group F clash, with both managers opting for attacking formations as they seek a winning start to their campaign.

The Dutch line up in a 4-3-3 formation, led by captain Virgil van Dijk at the heart of defence. Goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen starts between the posts, shielded by a back four consisting of Denzel Dumfries, Jan Paul van Hecke, Van Dijk and Micky van de Ven. In midfield, Frenkie de Jong is joined by Ryan Gravenberch and Tijjani Reijnders, while the attacking trio of Crysencio Summerville, Donyell Malen and Cody Gakpo will look to provide the cutting edge in front of goal.

Japan, meanwhile, have opted for a 3-6-1 setup that emphasizes midfield control and flexibility. Goalkeeper Zion Suzuki starts behind a three-man defence of Hiroki Ito, Shogo Taniguchi and Tsuyoshi Watanabe. Captain Ritsu Doan anchors a packed midfield alongside Kaishu Sano, Daichi Kamada and Keito Nakamura, with Daizen Maeda and Takefusa Kubo providing width and attacking support. Up front, Ayase Ueda leads the line as the lone striker.

With the Netherlands relying on the creativity of De Jong and the finishing ability of Gakpo and Malen, and Japan banking on their energetic midfield and quick transitions through Kubo and Maeda, the Group F encounter promises to be a fascinating tactical battle as both nations begin their quest for World Cup glory.
