2026 FIFA World Cup: Uruguay Take A 2-1 Lead Against Cape Verde At Break

Uruguay came from behind to take a 2-1 lead over Cape Verde in an entertaining first half of their FIFA World Cup Group H clash.

Cape Verde stunned the South Americans in the 21st minute when Pina found the breakthrough, finishing confidently after a well-worked attacking move to give the African side a deserved lead.

Uruguay responded by increasing the pressure as the half progressed and eventually found an equaliser just before the break.

Defender Ronald Araújo rose highest to score in the 44th minute, restoring parity and shifting the momentum in Uruguay’s favour.

With the first half seemingly heading for a draw, Uruguay struck again in stoppage time.

Agustín Canobbio completed the turnaround, finishing off a swift attacking move to put Marcelo Bielsa’s side ahead deep into added time.

The dramatic late goal handed Uruguay a 2-1 advantage at halftime, while Cape Verde were left frustrated after surrendering their lead despite an impressive opening 45 minutes.
