2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Netherlands Cruise Past Tunisia to Finish Top as Eagles Exit Bottom

The Netherlands sealed top spot in their FIFA World Cup group with a commanding 3-1 victory over Tunisia, producing a clinical display that confirmed their status as group winners while condemning the North Africans to the bottom of the standings.

The Dutch made a dream start, taking the lead in just the third minute after Tunisia captain Ellyes Skhiri inadvertently turned the ball into his own net. The early breakthrough handed the Netherlands complete control, and they doubled their advantage four minutes later when Brian Brobbey finished from a Virgil van Dijk assist to make it 2-0.

Despite the difficult start, Tunisia responded positively after the break. Hannibal Mejbri set up H. Mestouri, who pulled one back in the 54th minute to briefly raise hopes of a comeback.

However, the Netherlands quickly restored their two-goal cushion. Defender Jan Paul van Hecke convert Tijjani Reijnders’ delivery in the 62nd minute, putting the result beyond doubt.

The Dutch dominated possession throughout the contest, controlling 72 percent of the ball while consistently dictating the tempo. Tunisia battled hard but struggled to create enough clear-cut opportunities to threaten a late revival.

The victory ensured the Netherlands finished at the summit of the group table and advanced to the knockout stage with confidence, while Tunisia’s defeat left them rooted to the bottom of the standings, bringing their World Cup campaign to an end.
