Zimbabwe: Marian Marinica steps down as national team coach

Marian Marinica has resigned as head coach of Zimbabwe’s senior men’s national team, bringing his brief tenure at the helm of the Warriors to an end.

Marinica was appointed in November 2025, succeeding Michael Nees, and took charge of the team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

His last assignment took place in March, during a four-nation tournament in Botswana, which also included Zambia and Malawi. He led the Warriors to victory, defeating Zambia in the final to claim the trophy.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) announces that Marian Marinica has resigned from his position as head coach of the Zimbabwe senior men’s national team, citing personal reasons. ZIFA has accepted his resignation and thanks Coach Marinica for his contribution to the Warriors. The association wishes him the best of luck in his future endeavors.”

Following his departure, ZIFA has appointed an interim replacement. Kaitano Tembo has been named interim head coach and will lead the team at the upcoming Unity Cup in the United Kingdom.

He will be assisted by Takesure Chiragwi, who has been named assistant coach.
