2026 FIFA World Cup: Argentina Cruise Past Jordan

Argentina wrapped up their FIFA World Cup Group J campaign with a commanding 3-1 victory over Jordan in Dallas, extending their perfect run and sending another strong message ahead of the Round of 32.

Despite making nine changes to the starting lineup following the win over Austria, head coach Lionel Scaloni watched his side maintain complete control as Giovani Lo Celso, Lautaro Martinez and Lionel Messi all found the net.

Argentina took the lead in the 19th minute when Lo Celso curled a superb free kick into the far corner after being fouled just outside the penalty area.

The South Americans doubled their advantage 12 minutes later after a VAR review awarded a penalty for a dangerous challenge on Leandro Paredes. Martinez calmly converted from the spot to make it 2-0.

Jordan responded positively after the break and reduced the deficit in the 55th minute.

Captain Ehsan Haddad delivered a low cross from the right that substitute Mousa Al Tamari converted to become the first player to score against Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez at the 2026 World Cup.

Messi, who began the match on the bench, entered to a standing ovation shortly after the hour mark and produced another memorable moment with 10 minutes remaining.

After winning a free kick 25 metres from goal, the Argentina captain fired a low effort around the defensive wall and into the net to seal a 3-1 victory.

The goal saw Messi become the first player in World Cup history to score in seven consecutive World Cup matches, surpassing previous records held by Just Fontaine and Jairzinho.

The reigning world champions now head into the Round of 32 full of confidence, where they will face Cape Verde, while Jordan exit the tournament without earning a point despite a spirited final performance.
