2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Luckassen: “We Are Super Disappointed” as Ghana Fall 2-1 to Croatia

Ghana defender Derrick Luckassen has expressed deep frustration after the Black Stars’ narrow 2-1 defeat to Croatia, admitting that defensive lapses proved costly in a tightly contested World Cup encounter.

The result leaves Ghana reflecting on missed opportunities in a match they felt was within reach, with Luckassen acknowledging that the team had believed a positive result was possible heading into the closing stages.

Speaking after the final whistle, the defender did not hide his disappointment.

“I am super disappointed. I really thought a win was possible,” he said, summing up the mood in the Ghana camp following the setback.

Luckassen also pointed to key moments in the game where Ghana’s structure broke down, particularly in the build-up to Croatia’s second goal, which ultimately proved decisive.

The defender admitted that the team’s defensive organisation “should have been better,” highlighting areas for improvement as Ghana regroup for their next fixture against Colombia.

Despite the defeat, Ghana will take encouragement from periods of strong play, but the focus now shifts to tightening defensive discipline and converting chances as they look to stay competitive in the tournament.
