The Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) have concluded an agreement to promote Uganda as a leading African tourism destination during the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The partnership is expected to use the continent’s biggest football tournament as a platform to showcase Uganda’s tourism attractions to millions of football fans, visitors and international audiences.
Through the agreement, Uganda aims to capitalise on the global attention surrounding AFCON to highlight its natural beauty, wildlife, cultural heritage and hospitality, while strengthening its reputation as a destination for tourism and investment.
The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, marking a historic milestone for East African football as the region prepares to welcome supporters and visitors from across Africa and beyond.
For Uganda, the tournament represents an opportunity to connect its growing football profile with its tourism ambitions, using the competition to stimulate international interest and encourage visitors to explore the country beyond the stadiums.
The collaboration also reflects the broader potential of major sporting events to drive economic activity, support local businesses and create opportunities in hospitality, travel and related industries.
With preparations for AFCON 2027 gathering momentum, the CAF–UTB agreement is expected to help position Uganda prominently on Africa’s tourism map as the three East African nations prepare to host the continent’s premier national-team competition.
