Aleksander Čeferin warns Italy over Euro 2032 hosting risk

Italy’s role as co-host of Euro 2032 is now under serious threat. In a strong statement to Gazzetta dello Sport, Aleksander Čeferin raised major concerns about the country’s infrastructure and warned that the tournament could be taken away if conditions are not met.

“I hope the infrastructure will be ready, otherwise the tournament won’t take place in Italy,” he stated, putting direct pressure on Italian authorities just days after the national team’s latest disappointment.

The criticism goes beyond stadiums. Čeferin openly questioned the organization of Italian football, pointing to deeper structural issues. “Italian politicians should perhaps ask themselves why Italy has one of the worst football infrastructures in Europe,” he said, adding that political interference continues to slow progress.

While Italy is set to host the competition alongside Turkey, UEFA expects to validate around ten stadiums by October 2026. Several iconic venues, including the San Siro, require major upgrades, and failure to meet standards could cost the country one of its most prestigious sporting opportunities.
