Kenyan Premier League outfit Nairobi United have officially welcomed Belgian tactician Patrick Aussems as their new head coach following the departure of Geoffrey Oduor Solo.
Coach Solo, who took charge in January after replacing Nicholas Muyoti, leaves after guiding the club for half a season.
According to Nairobi United chairman Osman Abdi, the appointment of Aussems is part of the club’s ambition to compete at a higher level and strengthen its long-term football project.
The experienced Belgian coach is no stranger to Kenyan football, having previously managed AFC Leopards, and now takes over as Nairobi United look ahead to the next chapter of their journey.
In 2018, Aussems became the head coach of Simba S.C. the 2017-18 champions of the Tanzanian Premier League. The Tanzanian giants were ambitious and wanted to become one of the top five club teams in Africa.
The Belgian coach was hired to bring his experience in continental competitions and targeted winning the Champions League.
Aussems guided Simba S.C. to the Tanzanian Premier League title in 2018-19 and reached the quarter finals of the African Champions League, losing out to TP Mazembe 4-1 over two legs. Aussems signed a new one-year contract to continue as head coach for the 2019-20 season.
