2026 FIFA WORLD CUP: Switzerland and Colombia confirmed lineups for Round of 16 Showdown

Switzerland and Colombia have named formidable starting lineups ahead of their FIFA World Cup Round of 16 clash, with a coveted place in the quarter-finals and a blockbuster meeting with Argentina at stake.

The Swiss line up in a familiar 4-3-3 formation, with Gregor Kobel trusted between the posts. The back four consists of Denis Zakaria at left-back, Nico Elvedi and Manuel Akanji forming the central defensive partnership, while Ricardo Rodríguez starts on the right side of the defence.

In midfield, captain Granit Xhaka anchors the side alongside the experienced Remo Freuler and the promising Ardon Jashari, a trio expected to dictate possession and provide stability.

Up front, Dan Ndoye and Fabian Rieder will operate on the flanks, supporting striker Breel Embolo, who leads Switzerland’s attack as they seek to upset the South American giants.

Colombia also deploy a 4-3-3 system, with Camilo Vargas starting in goal behind a defence of Johan Mojica, Davinson Sánchez, Jhon Lucumí and Daniel Muñoz.

The midfield features James Rodríguez, Jefferson Lerma and Gustavo Puerta, combining creativity, energy and defensive discipline in the engine room.

Leading the attack is veteran striker Luis Suárez, flanked by Liverpool winger Luis Díaz on the left and the lively Jhon Arias on the right, giving Colombia pace and attacking flair.

With both nations boasting quality across the pitch, the Round of 16 encounter promises to be a fiercely contested battle. The winners will secure a place in the World Cup quarter-finals, where reigning champions Argentina await in what would be another mouth-watering knockout fixture.
