AFCON: Egypt Weighing Bid to Host 2028 AFCON

Egypt is seriously considering submitting a bid to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations, with the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) confirming that discussions are underway with key stakeholders and government officials.

A member of the EFA board revealed that the federation is carefully assessing the feasibility of staging Africa’s premier football competition, emphasizing that the country’s political leadership is fully committed to supporting a successful bid.

“We are seriously thinking about organizing the 2028 AFCON. We are studying it closely with the stakeholders and the political leadership, who are keen to provide all the support needed for the success of the tournament,” the board member said.

The official expressed confidence in Egypt’s ability to deliver a world-class tournament, pointing to the country’s experience in hosting major international sporting events and its modern football infrastructure.

“Egypt is capable of organizing any tournament, be it the Africa Cup of Nations or even the FIFA World Cup, but hosting AFCON 2028 is our top priority at the moment,” the official added.

The EFA is expected to deliberate further on the proposal during its next board meeting, where the possibility of launching an official bid will be discussed.

“During our next meeting at the Football Federation, we will discuss the possibility of organizing the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations. We have the capability and the infrastructure needed to host the tournament,” the board member concluded.

Egypt has previously hosted the Africa Cup of Nations on several occasions and is regarded as one of the continent’s most experienced hosts, making it a strong contender should it formally enter the race to stage the 2028 edition.
