The Senegalese women’s national team ended their two friendly matches against Egypt on a less positive note. After a victory in the first leg, the Lionesses lost 1-0 on Saturday in Cairo, as part of their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.
Having lost to Nigeria in their two previous friendly matches last June, Mame Moussa Cissé’s players returned to winning ways last Wednesday, defeating Egypt 1-0 thanks to a penalty from Ndeye Nguenar Ndiaye.
However, in this second encounter against the same opponent, the Senegalese women were unable to find a way through. This series of friendly matches allows the Lionesses’ coaching staff to assess the squad just days before the major continental tournament.
The 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations will be held in Morocco from July 25 to August 16, following a postponement of the competition initially scheduled for March.
Having qualified for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations finals for the third consecutive time, Senegal will be competing in their fifth AFCON tournament. The Lionesses will play in Group A alongside the host nation, Morocco, as well as Algeria and Kenya.
Quarter-finalists in the previous edition, the Senegalese women are continuing their preparations with the aim of improving on that performance in this new continental campaign.
